Today we look at the phrase, "Sending a Mixed Message about Drugs".

Today we look at the phrase, "Sending a Mixed Message about Drugs".

This is the excuse many prohibitionists use to advocate prohibition. They claim that by legalizing marijuana, you will send a 'mixed' message about drugs. But what message is that?

We have legal drugs, both for medicine and recreation. The recreational drugs are far worse than most of the illegal ones. Except for the hard drugs like , crack, meth and heroine to name a few, illegal drugs make up for a fraction of drug related deaths. However, pharmaceuticals kill off a person every 19 minutes.

Tobacco slays nearly a half million people annually and alcohol is killing off roughly 80,000 people each year...not to mention playing a major factor in relation to violence and violent crimes.

So what is this "mixed" message we are sending 'young people'.

Is it, "It's okay to do drugs...as long as we say so?" or "It's okay to do drugs as long as they are government sanctioned?" or is it "You have the freedom to take drugs"?

You see, the Drug-Free Fallacy sits in the middle of this prohibitionist argument, it claims that America wants a "drug Free nation" however, this is not the truth. America, or at least the apparent leaders of the nation, do not want a Drug Free nation, but rather a "drug specific nation".

The drugs that you are allowed to take are mind-numbing, will-eroding substances that pacifies the masses. A drunk might be violent, but he lacks the critical thinking ability to make any real difference. The opiate user cannot resist. The commercial tobacco smoker is really committing suicide over time.

Cannabis, and other illegal drugs (not all) induce critical thinking. It warps perspective and makes you think 'outside' of the box.

So I guess the "mixed" message we are sending is, "Think for yourself" which is really scary for those in power.
